Chapter 764 Siege and Attack (1)
Chapter 764 Siege and Attack (1)
"Y-Yuria… Is that you?" Zerathos called out in a hoarse voice.
Yuria froze, then grasped his right hand tightly.
"Y-Yes, Your Majesty! It's me, Yuria! Are you all right?" she asked, her voice shaking.
"Ugh…" Zerathos groaned, trying to sit up, but his body refused to cooperate.
Every muscle felt stiff and sore, like his bones had been crushed from the inside.
"Please be careful, Your Majesty. You haven't fully recovered yet," Yuria said anxiously, quickly supporting him so he could sit up.
Once Zerathos was propped against the headboard, he let out a long, tired breath and looked at her weakly.
"What happened? Tell me."
Yuria nodded and began explaining everything that had taken place after he lost consciousness.
But since she hadn't actually seen the fight between Zerathos and the mysterious man, her explanation came out scattered and uncertain, as if she were trying to piece together something she hadn't fully understood.
After listening, Zerathos looked confused.
"A fight? A mysterious man?" he muttered, furrowing his brow. "Why can't I remember anything?"
"Huh?" Yuria froze. "You… don't remember anything?"
Zerathos nodded weakly, clutching his head.
"That's right. I don't remember anything. My head hurts, and my memories seem to have vanished," he said weakly.
Yuria stood in shock. She had expected Zerathos to remember everything after waking up.
But it turned out that wasn't the case—his memories had simply vanished.
'Could that man have done it?' she wondered silently.
That was the only possibility that came to her mind. At the same time, she felt relieved.
The defeat Zerathos had suffered would surely leave him devastated and make it difficult for him to recover.
She didn't understand why the mysterious man had done that. Yet, deep down, she was grateful.
At least, the Demon Emperor's pride as the ruler of demons had not been completely shattered.
"Alright, it's fine. The most important thing is that you're conscious now. By the way…"
Before Yuria could finish, the sound of footsteps came from outside, followed by the panicked voice of a servant.
"L-Lady Yuria, bad news! The western region has been attacked by human forces!"
Zerathos and Yuria's eyes widened in shock. They exchanged horrified glances.
"Y-Your Majesty…" Yuria was about to speak, but Zerathos cut her off.
"Don't waste time, Yuria," Zerathos said, struggling to get out of bed.
Yuria moved to help him, but Zerathos brushed her hand aside.
"This wound's nothing! Now go and pass my orders to all the demon generals and their troops—get them ready to attack the human forces at the border. Move!"
Yuria quickly straightened and nodded. "Yes, Your Majesty!"
…
Western Continent Border, City of Zerundel…
The City of Zerundel was one of the border cities controlled by the Demon Empire.
It was an important hub where the imperial palace received news from all across the continent.
Because of that, security in the city was extremely tight, with around forty to fifty thousand troops stationed there.
Everything was built to guard against sudden attacks from humanity.
But now, the city—once considered the second safest fortress after the Demon Empire itself—had become the main target of the human forces.
Outside the walls of Zerundel City, Rei and Roseline stood side by side, with seventy thousand soldiers gathered behind them.
"Reporting, Hero of Light," a soldier said respectfully. "We've found all the weak points in Zerundel City's defenses. One of them is in the southern section. The structure there is much weaker, and it connects directly to the food storage. If we take it out, the demons inside will fall into chaos!"
Rei and Roseline exchanged a glance.
"Then we attack from the south," Rei said. "Deploy the four trebuchets we brought and destroy the southern wall of Zerundel Fortress. Move out."
"Yes, Hero of Light!" the soldier replied before rushing off to relay the order.
"Your Highness," Rei said, his expression turning serious. "Let's win this battle."
He secretly clasped Roseline's hand tightly.
Roseline blushed slightly but didn't pull away. Instead, she returned his grip.
"Umm… we're definitely going to win!" she whispered shyly, yet with determination.
After the four trebuchets were positioned facing the southern side of the city walls, Rei raised his hand. "Fire!"
The soldiers simultaneously cut the ropes holding the trebuchets, and in that instant, three fireballs shot toward the city wall and struck it.
BOOM!
The explosion was powerful, like a bomb going off.
However, that wasn't enough. The soldiers quickly reloaded the massive stones, set them ablaze, and launched them again and again.
The process was repeated five times until the fortress finally gave way and collapsed.
"Charge!" Rei shouted.
"Charge!" the soldiers echoed in unison, surging toward the ruined fortress.
As it turned out, the demon army had already prepared to meet the assault.
A two-meter-tall demon sat atop a demon beast resembling a horse.
Behind him, thirty thousand troops stood ready.
The giant demon raised his long sword to the sky and let out a shrill scream. "Everyone, attack them!"
"WOOAAAH!"
The demon army raised their weapons and spurred their mounts forward.
At that very moment, the first clash between the demon race and the human forces in the western region officially began.
…
About two hundred and fifty kilometers from Zerundel City stood another fortress belonging to the Demon Empire.
The fortress rose about fifty meters high, and behind it lay a city no less vast and significant than Zerundel City.
The city was called Infernos. Its name came from the five pillars of fire that soared high into the sky.
These pillars served to maintain the magical barrier protecting every corner of the city.
Around thirty to forty thousand troops were stationed inside.
"Infernos City…" Evalyn murmured, staring at it with a serious expression.
From what she'd read, Infernos City was a heavily fortified stronghold, strong in both defense and counterattacks.
If they weren't careful, their advantage could easily flip into a disadvantage.
"Everyone!" Lucas called out in a cold voice. "Raise your weapons! We're going to destroy that fortress head-on!"
Evalyn was startled and quickly interrupted him.
"What are you saying? A direct assault? That's tantamount to suicide!"
The fortress loomed huge and intimidating. Charging it head-on was basically the same as throwing their lives away.
Evalyn had never been in an actual battle before, but even she could tell Lucas's plan was basically suicide.
Lucas shot her a cold glance and said indifferently, "I am the supreme commander of this army. All my orders are absolute!"
